Following where the show leaves off after Season Four, Lucas, Haley and Nathan all head off to college with Peyton going to L.A for music and Brooke heading to New York for her clothing line. Lucas lives with Nathan and Haley and helps them care for their young son Jamie and he also assistamt coaches for the college's basketball team which houses Nathan as a player. Things are great and his relationship with Peyton is great too, great but distant and he misses her. Seeing Haley and Nathan happily together he decides he wants that and goes to L.A, ring in hand. He makes reservations for him and Peyton for dinner, but she's distracted so he instead plans his proposal for the hotel that night. What could go wrong, right? Well for starters, she could stop him from proposing.. which Luke is baffled by, and hurt. He takes this as a goodbye and leaves the hotel while she's sleeping. His dream girl was gone and he was sure he was done chasing her. He wanted happiness in his life.
Heading back to Tree Hill and waiting at the airport, he gets a call saying his book is being published after months of trying. His fresh start. He instantly gets on a plane to where the publisher is in New York and after his meeting stops by to see an old friend and flame, Brooke Davis. They go out and he tells her about what happened with Peyton and they start to drink, a lot. Somehow Brooke ends up wearing the engagement ring he'd purchased for Peyton and the next morning in a blur, they wake up to find themselves in a hotel room, wearing wedding clothes and with rings on both their fingers. They'd gotten married.
Unsure of what to do, Luke suggests they go with it and head back to Tree Hill. Who knows? Maybe this isn't all bad...
Will Brucas be able to work out married life? What will their friends think and say? It's all a part of the Rhythm of Love
