They always told you life on the beach was great.
Well, they also always told you that you'd never die young... but look where that got you. You tilt your head down and stare at your hands. They don't seem as transparent as they were when you woke up a few minutes ago, but you don't know if it's just your brain getting used to it or if you're actually solidifying. You place your hands together one more time, feeling the cool caress of your own skin. It feels so foreign, and yet it doesn't seem... bad. You blink to clear your head, taking much longer than a standard blink to let your thoughts solidify themselves into coherent words. This is all so strange. How did you get here? Why are you in this room?
You pick up the packet on the table. It's still warm, like it's fresh off the printer. You can still smell the ink as it dries. Careful not to smudge the words, you turn it over and read the title page. Attached is a letter:
La Costa Vida - Preparatory School for the Recently Deceased
Welcome, student.
You may feel a bit nervous about your new state of being — and yes, that's exactly what it is. Nothing major has happened to you. In fact, you may find yourself to be rather healed compared to your former body's current state. Don't worry. La Costa Vida will prepare you for the long, wonderful afterlife ahead. It should be noted that not all of the deceased find their way to our prestigious grounds, so you should count yourself among the lucky. Should you wish to take this wonderful opportunity, please make your way to the area circled on the map. A bright future awaits.
Regards,
Lanara Fieri - Headmaster
Your fingers tremble. So it is true. You're dead. But what is it they wanted you for? Why are you special?
Well, you guess there's only one way to find out.
