Long ago the people of Earth longed to explore the stars. With Earth being overly crowded many left for distant planets in search of a new start. Generation ships from various countries took off for the great unknown with only a dream and a hope that there would be other worlds like Earth.
They were right. There was another planet like Earth. Bright and vibrant, it had many similar features to Earth before it was polluted and spoiled by wars and technology. The humans on these generation ships named this world Yalanze and they proceeded to pick spots on the planet that reminded them of their homelands of old.
Each of Earth's cultures found a place to call their own. Remembering the past but keeping an eye to the future they chose to work hard and make a better future for their children.
The Yalanzens were not alone however, unknown to them, Yalanze was a land of mystical portals where peoples from other worlds could travel to their own, some to stay, others only for a brief time. Creatures of myth and horror stood side by side with Yalanzens and few ever knew that their friend might be a dragon in human form or that the neighbor that watched their sheep at night might be a werewolf.
Then one day, the supernaturals decided it was time to show the Yalanzens they were not alone. They did not wish to lose their rights as the Yalanzens began to expand their cities. So, in every city and town on a day chosen in advance they came out to their human brethren.
There was much chaos at first and bloodshed. But slowly, very slowly, the Yalanzen's realized they did not come to this planet to enact the old hatreds but to work past that. Tentative steps were made to heal the breach.
Distrust is in the air though. Old wounds still linger and not everyone is so easy to forgive regardless of species. To further complicate the matter the portals bring new people to the planet every day.
In an attempt to bring some order to the planet a mercenary company called The Brigade was re-purposed from a Hunters group that killed supernaturals to an organization that gives strangers a place to belong. The Brigade offers a simple package, work for them for a year, taking missions that suit your personality and at the end of your apprenticeship you can either advance or someone can help you find the portal back home.
The previous years have been hard on the various supernatural races on Yalanze. Ten years from that initial unrest, the vampire king is still missing. Marina rules in his name effectively but not without some personal sacrifices. Raising his child as best she can with the help of her trusted guards and personal retinue she gains the respect of the council and the other races for her diplomatic skills.
For the other races the situation has grown more confusing. An unease fills the air. There is danger on the wind and no one knows where the future may lie. There is the whisper that the old gods of Yalanze are watching and waiting for something momentous to happen.
If you have found yourself in this new world where alliances have been forged which side do you believe in? Do you join the Yalanzens in their tentative alliance with the Vampires to avoid a Draconic bid for supremacy or do you prefer the subtle ways of the werewolves? The brigade is still an option but after a year with them how do you know that the portal you step into is really your home? All these choices and many more await the traveler to this world. Maybe you are lucky enough to pass a trial to become an elder God, or maybe you just prefer to be a humble bard with a taste for sheep.
The choice is yours.
